America expected a pandemic baby boom. It got an egg-freezing one instead.

When it became clear that initial stay-at-home orders would last awhile, speculation began about a looming covid-19 baby boom. It certainly made sense at the time: a bunch of couples stuck at home, little to do.

Instead, procreation plans were put on literal ice.

Even as New York City’s businesses — restaurants, bars, gyms, retail — have been slammed by the pandemic, New York University’s Langone Fertility Center has seen a 41 percent increase in women freezing their eggs compared with the same time period in 2019. And that number might have been even higher if not for the Langone center’s three-month pandemic-induced closure.

Solving The Mystery Of My Missing Menstruation

I wasn’t pregnant, overweight or too thin. I wasn’t exercising too much or eating too little. From all appearances, I was a normal, healthy woman, but by the time I was in my mid-20s, I hadn’t menstruated in four years.

My periods had never been “regular,” but I was accustomed to getting one at least three to four times a year. My doctors told me that I was a normal, healthy woman, at least in reproductive terms. But I was desperate to discover where my absent monthly visitor had gone, and why. My blood tests showed that my female sex hormones—estradiol and progesterone—were near menopausal levels, which put me at a risk for osteoporosis. I knew menopause could come early, but I was just 24.

New Again: Lauryn Hill

Ms. Lauryn Hill has never been one to mince her words. As of late, her run-ins with the IRS and incendiary open letter have overshadowed her true gift: music. Despite the way she is perceived through the media, Hill’s unwavering fortitude and authenticity is something to be admired. Although she’s currently in the clink, things aren’t all bad for the musician. Hill recently signed to Sony and is set to her first studio album since her debut over 15 years ago. 2

Eau de Fendi

Once again, Fendi is breaking new—or rather, restoring old—grounds. Remaining ever faithful to its Roman roots, Fendi launched Fendi for Fountains, a new program dedicated to preserving and restoring Rome’s Trevi Fountain and the Four Fountains of Rome, this past January. In a continued celebration of this undertaking, Fendi’s creative director Karl Lagerfeld is revealing his very own exhibition of Roman fountains set to debut in line with the opening of Fendi’s new Avenue Montaigne boutique and Couture Fashion Week in Paris.

New Again: Matt Dillon

Regarded as the James Dean of the ’80s, New York State native Matt Dillon made being bad look so good. Priding himself as an actor who values quality over monetary pursuits, Matt Dillon’s selective nature has kept him out of the tabloids over the past two decades. That doesn’t mean, however, that Dillon isn’t working or has lost his fan base; with five films due out this year, clearly the actor is doing something right.
